Archives Bishop LaValley to ordain Deacon Belina to priesthood

Ogdensburg - Bishop Terry R. LaValley will ordain Deacon Scott Anthony Belina to the priesthood Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral in a ceremony open to all.

After ordination, the new priest will begin duties as parochial vicar of St. Mary’s Cathedral with additional responsibilities in the Chancery Office, assisting the bishop.

Deacon Belina was born May 7, 1985 in Landstuhl, Germany, the son of Randy and Patricia Belina. The family settled in Watertown where they have been parishioners of St. Anthony’s Parish. The deacon has three siblings, Daniel, Alex and Stefani.

He graduated from Immaculate Heart Central School in Watertown in 2003 and then attended Clarkson University in Potsdam where he earned a bachelor's degree in biomolecular science in 2007.

Deacon Belina then began studies for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, Penn., earning a master of divinity degree and a Master of Arts degree in theology.

Through the years, Deacon Belina worked for Verizon as a field technician for a summer, was involved in summer research at Clarkson and at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga.; and also worked four summers on staff at Guggenheim, the diocesan summer camp in Saranac Lake.

In his free time, he enjoys hiking, golf, running and reading.

Bishop LaValley ordained him a deacon May 25, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown.
