Archives Funeral held for Br. Marcel Crete, former MAI principal

Alfred, Maine – A Mass of Christian Burial for Brother Marcel Crete, 80, a Brother of Christian Instruction who served as principal of Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, was held Dec. 1 at the Notre Dame Chapel.

He died Nov. 24 in the Southridge Rehabilitation and Living Center in Biddeford, Maine, of complications due to ALS. Burial was in Brothers’ Cemetery in Alfred

Brother Marcel was born in Barre, Vermont, Nov. 30, 1933, the son of Lionel and Irene (Morneau) Crete.

As a Brother of Christian Instruction since 1952, he obtained degrees from LaMennais College (ME) and the Univ. of Detroit.  He spent 25 years in education in the Brothers’ schools in Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Ohio.

In 1979 he was appointed provincial superior of the American province. He was associated with the Notre Dame campus in Alfred, Maine since 1985 until his relocation to Southridge in August 2013.

Marcel was a competitive multi-sport participant, enjoyed playing cards and especially being in nature.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Robert, Gerald, Conrad, Louise Lemieux, and Anita White. He is survived by brother a Fernand of Burlington, Vermont; a sister Susan of Barre, Vermont; nieces and nephews
