April 2, 2014 Watertown - The Northern New York Community Foundation announces the creation of a new scholarship fund for children ages 12-18 years of age who are parishioners of either St. Patrick’s or St. Anthony’s Catholic churches. The Reverend Peter N. Butler Guggenheim Summer Camp Scholarship Fund will help sponsor a young person(s) attending Camp Guggenheim for one week during the 2014 summer. Camp Guggenheim, located in Saranac Lake, offers campers week-long sessions including adventures in faith, fun and outdoor activities. The camp is in session for six weeks beginning June 29. The Guggenheim scholarship has been established by Joseph M. Butler, Watertown, New York in memory of both his brother, Reverend Peter N. Butler, and his late wife Nancy F. Butler. “Father Peter loved working with young people and especially enjoyed the Guggenheim Summer Camp which he co-founded with Father LaBaff. Peter had a warm and friendly demeanor and a great sense of humor. He was well respected by everyone especially young people who recognized his desire to assist those in need,” Mr. Butler said. Individuals interested in applying for the Camp Guggenheim scholarship can download the application from the camp’s website, www.rcdony.org/guggy/camp, pick one up at St. Patrick’s, or contact Deacon Kevin T. Mastellon at St. Patrick’s Pastoral Center 782-6086 or kevin@stpatswtn.org. Completed applications should be returned to Deacon Mastellon at the Pastoral Center or mailed to St. Patrick’s Church, 123 S. Massey Street, Watertown, New York. All applications must be return by May 11. Recipients will be announced in early June. St. Patrick’s will hold a dinner dance on May 3 at 6:00 p.m. at Savory, Carriage House. Proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the Guggenheim scholarship. Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the Pastoral Center. Entertainment by Ferguson and Rogers. |
