Archives Volunteers sought to assist long term care residents

Ogdensburg -  Winny Sachno, coordinator of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, is seeking volunteers in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis Counties. 

Mrs. Sachno, who works in the diocesan office of Catholic Charities, said, the local program is looking for volunteers who are “empathetic, diplomatic and good communicators.”

“The ombudsman help residents improve their quality of daily life by empowering them, or by advocating on the resident’s behalf to solve problems they are unable to resolve on their own,” she said.

Ombudsman volunteers are certified. The local program coordinator and staff from the New York State Ombudsman Program will provide the necessary certification training and also on-going training and support.

Volunteers dedicate about four hours per week at the facility to Which they are assigned.
