Father Cosmic
Father John J. Cosmic and Father Thomas E. Kornmeyer, ordained May 26, 1990 by Bishop Stanislaus J. Brzana, are celebrating 25 years of priesthood this year.

Father Cosmic is retired and living at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. A native of Deferiet, he was born April 15, 1923.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse in 1955 and worked for IBM for 28 years. In 1983, he was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Rochester and then began studies for the priesthood at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut.

After his ordination, Father Cosmic served as parochial vicar at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg and chaplain at the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility.

He also served as pastor in Port Leyden and Chaumont.

In 1995, he retired and was named pastor emeritus in Chaumont.

Later, Father Cosmic served as administrator in Harrisville and Natural Bridge from 2000 to 2002 when he became administrator of Black River and Deferiet.

He retired again in 2003 but was named special parochial vicar of Carthage and Copenhagen in 2005 before moving to the motherhouse.

Father Kornmeyer
Father Kornmeyer will begin duties as pastor of The Catholic Community of Constable, Westville and Trout River as well as pastor of St. Mary’s of the Fort Church in Fort Covington and St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay and canonical pastor of The Catholic Community of Burke and Chateaugay on July 1.

He has served as pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Evans Mills with missions at St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia and St. Theresa of Avila in Theresa since 2012.

Born April 2, 1958 in Constableville, he was raised in Boonville. He graduated from Wadhams Hall in 1980, entered the U.S. Army and served for four years before returning to seminary studies at St. John’s Seminary in Boston.

After ordination as a priest, Father Kornmeyer served as parochial vicar in Saranac Lake, Sacred Heart in Massena and Notre Dame in Malone.

In 1999, his was named administrator in Long Lake and Newcomb and pastor in those communities one year later.

Father Kornmeyer served as pastor at Saranac Lake, Lake Clear and Bloomingdale with missions in Gabriels and Paul Smiths before coming to Evans Mills, Philadelphia. and Theresa.
