Bishop LaValley accepted 16 men for candidacy as permanent deacons in a ceremony at Wadhams Hall Retreat Center in Ogdensburg June 6. The new candidates have spent the last year in studies at Wadhams Hall once a month and have undertaken a regular schedule of on-line courses through Notre Dame University’s STEP program for deacon formation. The candidates face two more years of formation in scripture study, canon law, social teachings, homiletics, liturgy and worship and other topics prior to consideration for ordination in 2017.
