September 16, 2015 By Valerie Mathews The summer heat will soon fade and give way to the cool crisp days and nights of autumn. Through the Bishop’s Good Samaritan Fund, a ministry of the Bishop’s Fund Appeal, pastors are able to make requests to Bishop LaValley for emergency grants on behalf of families and individuals in need during times of hardship. It is through the generosity of Catholics throughout the Diocese who support the annual Bishop’s Fund Appeal that these grants are able to bring hope in times of despair. As Pope Francis says so beautifully, “We Christians are called to go out of ourselves to bring the mercy and tenderness of God to all.” This year’s Bishop’s Fund goal is $1,280,000. Any funds raised over the goal will be used to supplement the Bishop’s Good Samaritan Fund. Along with reaching out to those in need, we continue on our journey of Creating a Culture of Vocations, Strengthening Faith Formation in Family Life and Building Parishes with Living Stones. Your support of the Bishop’s Fund Appeal continues to be crucial to these priorities and the following ministries supported by your generosity: Education of Seminarians, Family Life Office, Natural Family Planning Office, Respect Life Ministry, Formation for Ministry Program, Office of the New Evangelization, Continuing Education and Formation of Priests, Priests’ Graduate Studies, Vocation Office, Permanent Deacons, Deacon Formation, Tuition Assistance Program, Campus Ministry Program, Matching Gifts to Catholic Schools, Department of Faith Formation, Diocesan Center of Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry, Guggenheim Center and Department of Worship.
