| Father Martin Cline | Year for Priests Page |
Ordination: June 11, 2005
Current assignment: Administrator in Fort Covington,Bombay and Hogansburg
1.) What's your favorite prayer?
The footprints prayer and the prayer of St. Francis
2.) Favorite saint?
St. Joseph and St. Francis Assisi
3.) A holy moment in your priesthood:
I was thinking about the first time I said Mass as a chaplain at Guggenheim. I
had been a camper for seven years, a counselor for two and now a chaplain for five
years. It is where I decided to be a priest and it was great the first time I got to say Mass there.
4.) Something you've learned from your brother priests (or a particular priest):
I remember a dinner I had a few weeks before my ordination with my home parish
priest. He said, “There will be weeks of tough days, and then one thing may happen,
something small and it will make it all worth it.” In everything we have tough days,
and it’s the little things that make it all worth it.
5.) Favorite part of being a priest:
Celebrating the sacraments – baptisms, weddings, Sunday
and weekend Mass; when you are with people who want to be there to
receive; that is what makes it worth all of it.
6.) Advice for young people considering a vocation
The best advice I remember came from a poster my Uncle Phil gave me, it simply
said, “Just Do It!” it was a Nike shoe poster. I had it hanging in every dorm room
I had. If God is calling you, just do it. If you try avoiding the call or ignoring it completely
you will never truly have peace. Only when you are doing what God calls you
to do then you have peace in your life.
7.) Something about you that few people would know:
I collect sports memorabilia, mostly cards but also autographs, pictures or stuff
like that. I started when I was starting college and picked it up more and more. So if you
are looking to get rid of anything, call Father Martin first.
8.) Favorite temporal (nonchurchy) things:
My autographed Nolan Ryan baseball (my first), my car (I like to visit friends), my
TV (I love to watch movies) and my jump bag (I am a New York state certified EMT
with the Malone Call firemen).
9.) Favorite food:
I cannot tell a lie – I love my mother’s meat loaf and mashed potatoes. There is
nothing better.
