Archives Students create Christmas card cover art

The Diocese of Ogdensburg held a Christmas Card Art Contest for Bishop Terry R. LaValley’s 2024 Christmas card for any student in grades K-12 affiliated with a Catholic school or attending a parish faith formation program in the diocese.

The theme was O Come Let Us Adore Him.

The diocese received numerous beautiful entries. The entries were selected by grade levels: Grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.

Each of the artwork selected per grade levels happened to be by a student in our Catholic Schools.

Bishop LaValley called the schools on November 19 and announced to the student that their artwork was selected for his 2024 Christmas card.

The following student’s artwork was selected for Bishop LaValley’s Christmas cards: (1) Ruthie Joyner, a first grader at St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Meg and Jackson Joyner; (2) Ella Fitzgerald, a fourth grader at St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Danielle and Brian Fitzgerald; (3) Minerva Herina, a fifth grader at Immaculate Heart Central in Watertown, the daughter of Abisatou and Joshua Herina; (4) Emilia Gradis, a seventh grader at Seton Catholic in Plattsburgh, the niece of Indira Gradys DE Eppler and Jeremy Eppler; and (5) Mary Curtis, a ninth grader from Immaculate Heart Central in Watertown, the daughter of Ann Marie and Logan Curtis.

Bishop LaValley invited the students and their families to noon Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral followed by lunch at his residence on December 10.

Each student’s name will be on the back of cards featuring the image she created.
