July 3, 2024 On Friday, June 21, the Catholic Press Association honored the North Country Catholic during the annual Catholic Press Awards. Editor Darcy Fargo’s column was honored with third place in a Best Regular Column category for three of her columns, “Not the expected answer,” “Yes, it means everyone” and “He’s not done with me yet.” “These columns are written in a down-to-earth style that makes them highly accessible to the average reader,” the judges wrote of the entry. “They cover everyday, relevant topics and thus provide the reader with educational materials and insights that will allow them to be good teachers and purveyors of the information themselves. This column seems like the sort of offering that would attract readers to the newspaper and which readers would look forward to receiving with each issue.” “While we know here in the Diocese of Ogdensburg that the North Country Catholic is outstanding, I’m proud to see our paper honored and recognized on a national stage,” said Bishop Terry R. LaValley. “Congratulations to the North Country Catholic and to the paper’s editor, Darcy Fargo!” According to the Catholic Media Association, the Catholic Media Awards “aim to highlight and honor the efforts of individuals and organizations that excel in portraying Catholic teachings, values, and stories in a compelling and authentic manner.” This is the third time Fargo’s column has been honored at the Catholic Media Awards.
