April 22, 2026 By Deacon Garry Stevens As the Church marks the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on April 26, the Diocese of Ogdensburg joins Catholics worldwide in praying for those discerning God’s call to priesthood, diaconate, religious life, marriage and lay ministry. This annual observance reminds us that every vocation begins with an encounter with Christ. In his message for this year’s Vocations Day, Pope Leo XIV reflects on vocation as an inner awakening to God’s love. He describes the day as “an occasion of grace… the interior discovery of God’s free gift that blossoms in the depths of our hearts.” Christ, he says, is the One who draws us close: “He is the Shepherd who reveals that life is truly beautiful when one follows Him.” The pope adds that this encounter is transformative: “His beauty transforms us.” He also calls families, parishes, and communities to nurture vocations, reminding us that “every vocation is an immeasurable gift for the Church.” Father Christopher C. Carrara, Vocations director for the Diocese of Ogdensburg, notes that the pope’s message centers on receiving God’s love before responding to it. “When we pray for vocations, we help others recognize the gift God has already planted in their hearts,” Father Carrara said. As we celebrate this year’s World Day of Prayer for Vocations, may our prayers help many discover the beauty and joy of following the Good Shepherd. |
