May 29, 2024 “What’s your craziest ‘God will provide’ story?” That question was posed to the members of my favorite online group for Catholic women. Last time I looked, the question had more than 60 responses. There were stories about God providing money when it was desperately needed, pregnancies to women who had been told they were likely infertile, unusual resolutions to medical emergencies, career opportunities that weren’t sought, the perfect home after prolonged searches and problems, spouses in unexpected places… Each story as unique as the woman who told it. Usually, when there’s a thread in one of my online groups that has more than a couple dozen responses, I read a handful or so, and then I move on. This thread, though, was an exception. I found it both fascinating and inspiring reading how God was working in the lives of these other women, most of whom I’ve never met. I’ve read every response at least once, most more than once. It was awesome to see how God works in the lives of others, even in ways I had never thought of. It was awesome to see people who were grateful to God for how he works in their lives. The whole thread was uplifting! A few people noted that reading the posts gave them hope and encouragement when they really needed it. God was providing even through people talking about God providing. While that thread focused on the “craziest” stories, it occurred to me that God provides for us every second of every day, but I don’t often think of it that way. Every single time my heart beats is a gift from God, who wills my existence in that moment. While that’s the most basic example of God providing, there are countless examples in our lives every day. And how uplifting could it be for all of us, and for those around us, if we thought more about those “God will provide” stories and shared them? |
